This 16 minute video provides a step-by-step guide to constructing a snake hibernaculum — an  underground over-wintering refuge for snakes.  Long Point Land Trust has constructed a number of hibernacula to help replace the kind of natural cavities that once were more common in natural areas in our region.  This is part of the Trust’s ongoing efforts to restore populations of endangered reptiles, such as Eastern Foxsnake and Milksnake, in our area.

LPBLT thanks the following for their financial support of the Conserving Carolinian Reptiles Project: HIVA Environmental Fund, The John and Pat McCutcheon Charitable Foundation, Environment Canada and the Government of Ontario. LPBLT also thanks the numerous project volunteers and individual supporters for helping protect species at risk.
