Shirley & George Pond Nature Reserve

Additional Information

This nature reserve was dedicated in honour of Shirley & George Pond in 2014 in recognition of their years of contributions to conservation in the region.

The location and size of the property presented a significant and exciting opportunity for Long Point Basin Land Trust to improve wildlife habitat and increase natural linkages in the area through ecological restoration. Nestled just north of the Turkey Point Marsh, the Shirley & George Pond Nature Reserve protects a diversity of habitats including forests, meadows, and the east branch of Forestville Creek.

The ongoing ecological restoration efforts aim to increase natural habitat along the Lake Erie shoreline, connect inland woodlands with coastal marshes, and improve water quality and fish and wildlife habitat throughout the watershed into Turkey Point Marsh and Lake Erie’s Long Point Bay.
