What is Explore the Outdoors?
Explore the Outdoors (ETO) is a nature exploration program that connects people with the beauty and biodiversity of the Long Point Basin. Launched in 2019, ETO promotes outdoor activity, social engagement, and conservation awareness through guided events and workshops. By fostering a deeper appreciation for nature, the program encourages participants to stay active, inspired, and connected to their environment.
ETO events are open to everyone who loves nature or is curious to explore the outdoors. Whether you’re an avid naturalist, a creative seeking inspiration, or simply someone looking for a new adventure, ETO provides opportunities to learn, connect, and immerse yourself in the wonders of the natural world.

Designed for nature lovers of all ages and experience levels, ETO offers opportunities to explore forests, wetlands, tallgrass prairies, savannas, and other ecologically significant habitats while learning from local naturalists, researchers, conservation professionals, and community experts. Events may include guided hikes, species discovery walks, fungi and insect exploration, native plant and habitat workshops, and hands-on learning opportunities focused on conservation and stewardship.
Hosted at protected nature reserves and other natural areas throughout the region, Explore the Outdoors encourages participants to deepen their connection with nature, discover the incredible biodiversity of Carolinian Canada, and gain a greater appreciation for the importance of protecting wild spaces for future generations. Many events also highlight local Species at Risk, habitat restoration efforts, citizen science, and practical ways individuals can support conservation in their own communities.
