Additional Information
Nestled along the Mud Creek corridor in southern Norfolk County, the Mud Creek Nature Reserve protects a diverse mosaic of forest, grassland, riparian habitat, and farmland. This ecologically rich property connects to a broader conservation block anchored by Backus Woods, supporting the movement and survival of many species.
Mud Creek provides important habitat for species at risk and serves as one of the Long Point Bird Observatory’s Tree Swallow research sites, part of one of North America’s longest-running studies on climate change and breeding performance in birds.
Now permanently protected, the Mud Creek Nature Reserve safeguards vital habitat, strengthens regional connectivity, and ensures a future for the species that depend on this unique landscape.
